Other Committee · Meeting of July 30, 2026

Westwood officials outlined three possible sites and a $33.9 million to $43.7 million cost range for a new Fire Station 1. Town Administrator Connor Reid and Fire Chief Stephen Lund described unsafe conditions in the department's temporary tent structure on High Street, including near-miss traffic incidents and winter flooding risk. Architect Greg Joint of design firm KBA said the building program has been cut about 19 percent from a $41.6 million design voters rejected last fall, trimming bunk rooms from 10 to 7 and eliminating a firefighter decontamination "sweat box." Owner's project manager Walter Hartley of PMA Consultants said statewide construction costs are escalating 4 to 6 percent annually, meaning a six-month delay in financing votes "would likely lead to increased costs." The Select Board votes Monday on debt exclusion ballot language for the November 3 election; the FS1 Steering Committee is expected to recommend a preferred site August 7, ahead of a tentative October 26 special town meeting.
