Other Committee · Meeting of October 7, 2026
Westwood's Finance and Warrant Commission unanimously approved two warrant articles for the October 26 Town Meeting, including a scaled-back fire station budget. Chair Bill Bruce said the proposed $39.98 million not-to-exceed budget is $1.6 million less than the 2025 version's actual $41.6 million cost, after cutting the building's square footage by about 20 percent. The town plans to apply $5.2 million in local funds, including $2.5 million in free cash and $1.15 million from a land sale, cutting the debt-excluded bond to $34.8 million from $38.1 million and trimming 30-year debt service by roughly $10 million.
Bruce put the tax impact at "about $295 a year for the average taxpayer, or $25 a month," starting in fiscal year 2029. A second article renames the Capital Stabilization Fund to the Capital and Tax Impact Stabilization Fund and deposits $1 million, bringing its balance to $2.7 million. If approved at Town Meeting, the fire station article also appears as ballot question 10 on the November 3 ballot.
