Select Board Sets Oct. 26 Fire Station Funding Vote
Other Committee · Meeting of September 9, 2026
Westwood Select Board calls Oct. 26 special town meeting to fund a new fire station. Chair Marianne LeBlanc-Cummings said the project, known as FS1, needs a two-thirds vote at that meeting plus a majority on a Proposition 2½ debt exclusion at the November 3 ballot, "both of those votes are necessary per state law in order to proceed." The Board unanimously selected the former Deerfield School site in August after more than 60 public meetings. Project manager PMA and designer KBA presented a schematic design cutting square footage 19 percent, adding a net 30 parking spots near the library, and rerouting fire apparatus access to a signalized High Street intersection.
The Board also directed the Recreation Commission to form an FS1 Recreation Fields Advisory Group and ratified the Westwood Media Center lease. New Police Chief Russell O'Neill was ceremonially sworn in.
