Westwood Panel Reviews Costs for 3 Fire Station Sites
Other Committee · Meeting of July 27, 2026
Westwood's FS1 Steering Committee reviews costs for three rival fire station sites ahead of an August recommendation. Project manager Walter of PMA and architect Greg of KBA presented rough cost ranges of $37.2 million to $43.7 million for the existing 637 High Street station, $33.8 million to $40.3 million for the Deerfield Avenue site, and $38.8 million to $43.29 million for town-owned Lot 14-131 behind a High Street gas station. Each figure carries differing risk: $500,000 in PFAS remediation at High Street, versus $3 million in potential underground tank remediation and land-taking from an operating gas station at Lot 14-131.
"They are all viable," KBA's architect told the committee. Member Harry Davis confirmed the new design cuts square footage by about 19 percent from an earlier, unbuilt proposal. The committee approved its July 3 minutes 7-0 with one abstention and will vote on a site recommendation August 7 in a joint meeting with the Select Board, ahead of a November 3 debt exclusion ballot question.
