Westwood Planning Board declines to vote on 30 new parking spaces at Everett Street, sends housing plan to state. The board voted 5-0 to continue a public hearing on amendments to the 22 and 40 Everett Street mixed-use development, the town's first MBTA Communities Act project, to April 7 after members raised concerns about a 12 percent increase in parking capacity, from 254 to 284 spaces, and the collapse of a planned all-inclusive accessible playground partnership with the Flutie Foundation and the Zach Heger Foundation, who withdrew citing reluctance to invest roughly $600,000 on private property. Developer Giorgio Petruziello cited an unexpectedly older tenant demographic with two-car households to justify the parking request, while Chair Ellen Rawlings said the project was built on a promise of transit-oriented development and asked the team to explore offsite parking alternatives and consider restoring community amenities including a Little League snack shack.
In a separate 5-0 vote, the board adopted the 2025 Housing Production Plan and cleared it for submission to the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities after the Select Board had previously given conditional approval; the plan clarifies that a targeted 2 percent increase in the town's Subsidized Housing Inventory can be reached through conversion of existing market-rate units, not only new construction.
