Westwood Select Board Votes to Study Three Fire Station Sites at Town Meeting

WESTWOOD — February 25, 2026 — Westwood Select Board swears in new Town Administrator and advances fire station feasibility study at first in-person meeting since pandemic. The board, chaired by Marianne LeBlanc-Cummings, formally welcomed Connor Reed as Town Administrator at the February 25 hybrid meeting and voted unanimously to place a warrant article before annual Town Meeting to fund a feasibility study of three candidate sites for a new Fire Station 1 — a town-owned parcel behind 736-738 High Street, the Deerfield School property at 72 Deerfield Avenue, and the existing High Street station. The site-selection stakes sharpened dramatically the following day, when structural engineers monitoring the FS1 apparatus floor concluded it could no longer safely support fire apparatus; frontline crews and equipment have since been moved to Fire Station 2 in Islington, and FS1 is now closed overnight. The board also voted unanimously to support the Housing Partnership Fair Housing Committee's housing production plan and authorize its submission to the state Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities, and Finance Director Stephanie McManus reported the town's budget is balanced pending final health insurance premium rates expected in early March.
