WESTWOOD — The Westwood Select Board voted unanimously to place a fire station debt exclusion question on the November 3 ballot, a step state law required before the site or budget is set. Town Administrator Connor Reed said the ballot language was fixed by statute and would be identical regardless of site, since voters will separately approve the project's actual cost at a special town meeting expected October 26, ahead of the ballot vote. Resident Ada Zong urged the board to reject the question, warning it amounted to "writing a blank check." The board also accepted $735,044.64 in grants, including a $625,000 federal Drug-Free Communities award and $97,814.64 in combined state 911 funding.
Members rated Town Administrator Reed's first six months "exceeds expectations," and following executive session, ratified incoming Police Chief Russell O'Neill's employment contract by a 3-0 roll call.
