School Committee · Meeting of February 23, 2026
Westwood School Committee approved a $61.6 million fiscal 2027 budget and voted 3-1 to create new elementary buffer zones. The budget, $61,648,582, restores four classroom teacher positions at Downey, Martha Jones, Sheehan and Pine Hill elementary schools and lifts the annual capital budget to $1.28 million. Member Tony warned the district may be in its "third straight year" below level services and cast the lone no vote on buffer zones, which could reassign some newly registering students between schools.
Superintendent Tim said the budget reflects renewed "cooperation" with Town Hall after weeks of tension. The committee also accepted a $15,000 donation from the Westwood Athletic Alumni Group, bringing its three-year total to $35,000, and heard that interim student services director Lori Cimino will stay on through 2026-27.
